Ha. I'm sorry for the horrible title, but it just worked so well that I couldn't resist. Anyway, Dana had one more blood test this weekend, and they discovered she did have the thing they suspected she had - an incurable mutation of the coronavirus. The vet said that if she hasn't eaten for two weeks, she's suffering. So Anya's taking her to be euthanized sometime this week. Sigh. I guess that's that. At least she won't be suffering anymore.

Cat update
She's not better. She's pretty much the same as she was on Monday, as far as I can tell. Now she won't even eat salmon treats, although she did drink a little water last night when I put the bowl next to her nose. She's also taken to getting off the bed and laying at the entrance to Anya's closet. I have no idea the reasoning behind that, but I'll bet it's nothing good. I also gave her the last pill I was responsible for last night, and I am so glad I'm never doing that again. Not fun. It wasn't even that hard - I got her to swallow it on the third attempt - but she just looks so damn frightened while it's happening. And I mean, why wouldn't she? Someone comes over, starts petting you, then grabs your head, tilts it back, forces your jaw open, and pokes something down your throat? I love it when people do that to me!
Anyway. I worked from home this morning so I could hang out with her a bit, but Anya gets back home this afternoon or evening. I'm not sure what will happen this weekend. Poor kitty.

Alas
The kitty is not okay. She has something that the vet couldn't pinpoint exactly, but almost all of the "maybes" are incurable. Basically, she is probably going to die. That poor thing. I haven't known her for long - only about a month and a half - but she's really incredibly sweet. She pretty much refuses to eat or drink now, even when tempted with chicken water (the store was out of canned tuna tonight), though I did convince her to eat 4 little salmon treats after I shoved an antibiotic pill down her throat. (They are for "in case" she happens to have something they can cure.)
There's a cat sitter lined up for the next two nights, because I'll be gone too. I can only hope for the best, I guess.

Arctic air continues to drain into Minnesota and Wisconsin
Thanks to Gina for that subject ... it's from weatherbug. And as she pointed out, it makes us sound like the Arctic's toilet. At any rate, that means it's cold outside. We got a lot more snow last night, and I don't think it's going to be going anywhere for awhile.
Dana is sick, we think. She hasn't been herself since Thanksgiving. Anya is going to try to take her to the vet in the morning before leaving for the week on a trip. I hope everything is okay. Poor kitty.
This week is the Second City 24-hour improv marathon for charity. One of my favorite 24-hour periods of each year. Gearing up for hilarity ... now.

Kitty!
Our cat, Dana, came home tonight! She's very cute. She wanders around the place, loves attention, and meows a lot. She's not very loud, but I still hope she doesn't plan on doing that all the time. I don't think I'm going to leave my door open during the day - she's been in my room quite a few times, and although I like her around, I can already tell she would knock down all of my CDs and curl up on my pillow if I let her roam free. Neither of which I especially want to happen. It's not that I don't like cats, but I've really never had one. Well, I guess we had one for about a year when I was in high school. (My older sister's cat, after she first left for law school.) I'm just kind of a freak about my space, is all. Maybe Dana will break me down.

Fancy
Tomorrow night I'm going to see a show from an opera box for the first time! I think. I mean, I think it will be the first time. Also, there will be a soundcheck party, which I suspect will be heavy on the "soundcheck" and very, very light on the "party." Details to follow on Wednesday. (The band in question is Wilco.)
The song "High Enough" by Damn Yankees is going through my head. Seriously, why? Not even the chorus, either. No, the actual verses are going through my head. "I just made one mistake ... I didn't know what to say when you called me BAAAAAAYBAY!" Oh, it needs to stop.
On Wednesday Anya officially gets her cat! I'm so excited. It's not going to be the cat with the balance problem after all - instead, it's a cat named Dana. Somehow that reminded me that I need a haircut. (I don't know.) My hair falls into odd waves at this length, and will not hold to any correct head shape to save its life. Unless it's blown dry, but then it gets all staticky.
And on that note, Happy Halloween!

VCR ... wha?
I totally failed last night at taping Veronica Mars. I swear I set everything properly, but somehow I only recorded the first 20 minutes of the episode. That means I'll have to watch the reshowing on Saturday night, but that's a long time to wait for my fix. I've probably programmed my VCR and cable box to record stuff while I was out about a hundred times, and this is the first time I've screwed up. Naturally, I blame Jim O'Rourke.
In other news, we are getting a cat! Next week! From the Humane Society! I'm so excited. For years now it has been my dream for my roomie to get a cat. I get to live with it, but it's not my responsibility. Perfect. The cat hasn't quite been decided upon, but there are some finalists. Including a kitty who had a bad ear infection awhile ago and now has a balance problem and walks around with her head tilted. Awww. We were cracking up tonight (affectionately, of course) imagining her walking around the place and smacking into walls and stuff. I suggested a tiny kitty helmet. Hehe. Oh man. Our cat is going to be special.
