Loose Ends

I'm heading off on vacation tomorrow, which means I'm scurrying about right now trying to tie up loose ends before I leave. The trip will include three stops - Montreal, Buffalo, and Louisville. I've never been to the latter two cities, so you may be in for some exciting mobile updates consisting of information like, "Hey, I'm in Buffalo!" As you may have figured out, the trip will be tied in with a few concerts along the way. This will be my last musical jaunt for awhile (though stay tuned for the planned Route 66 road trip in August! Kicks will be gotten!) so I'm hoping it's a good one. Right now I'm trying to get rental car plans squared away.

I mentioned yesterday that I had a funny story about hearing Andrew Bird's version of "Don't Be Scared" for the first time. On Saturday, which was the day of my inaugural Andrew Bird show, I woke up with to the temperature and humidity in my room at alarming levels. This, plus the various pollens that had merrily wafted inside, resulted in my left eye bothering me quite a bit. Annoyed and looking for some easy remedies, I googled the term "goopy eye." Yeah, it's gross. Sorry. Be glad your eye wasn't goopy.

One of the first results that came up was the website of a guy named Rob. He keeps a journal, and it appeared that once upon a time Rob, too, suffered from goopy eye. I read his entry about it, then explored his site further. I soon became caught up in the story of his daughter, Schuyler, and read the entries relating to her. In a few of those entries, Rob mentioned his Andrew Bird fandom. He also linked some videos featuring Schuyler, and the first one I watched was set to a really great song. It sounded vaguely familiar ... it sounded like Andrew Bird, as a matter of fact. And it was. "Don't Be Scared." Now, I ask you - isn't that a pretty nifty coincidence? I look up information on freakin' goopy eye, and wind up with an Andrew Bird concert preview on the very night I'm going to see him. And it's not as if millions and millions of people know who Andrew Bird is in the first place. (And is it even WEIRDER that "Don't Be Scared" is a Handsome Family cover, and I saw them live for the first time last Wednesday?)

I don't know. But now I own Weather Systems, and I also read Rob's journal. So there you go.
