What you once were isn't what you want to be anymore
This post has been a long time coming, partly because I'm not quite sure what I want to say ... or if I want to say it at all. I haven't written about it because I think actions speak louder than words, because I hate setting people's expectations, because I don't care to make a big production out of it. But it's no secret, so what the hell.
Over the past year and a half I've lost half my body weight. Soooo ... yep.
Actually, I dislike the passive nature of the word "lost." I think it's a poor description of what I've been up to. People like to ask me how I did it, but there's no simple answer. In a nutshell: take everything you've heard is bad in terms of nutrition and physical activity, and stop doing it. Then take everything you've heard is good in terms of nutrition and physical activity, and do it instead. (By "everything" I mean everything actually backed up by science/biology/medicine/research. And common sense.) I won't pretend I follow all of this to the letter 100% of the time (types the girl who's baking fresh pumpkin cupcakes with white chocolate chunks and cream cheese frosting for a party later this week) because I am human and not utterly boring. But that's the basic idea. It gets easier as time goes by, though it's very much still a work in progress.
So. That's that. On an unrelated note (or IS IT? No, it is. OR IS IT?) here's a picture of the llamas who live on a farm about three miles from me:

Congratulations!!!
Yeah, what she said!
It's the emergence of your killer cheekbones that delights me the most. What a great face. :-)
Laziness and surgeries and encroaching middle-age had recently caused me to gain some pounds I didn't like. Seeing your success moved me to the same "stop the bad stuff and do the good stuff" routine you did, and I'm now back to a weight where my doctor won't frown at me at my next physical. Thanks, Ms. Bree, you're inspirational.
Hell yes! I've really been eyeing making some choices of the healthier variety lately and this is a bigger push to do so. Congrats!
HOLY CRAP! Congratulations! I'm so proud of you!!!! I remember talking about both of us losing weight at Allison's wedding. But how do you bring up the topic when we don't see each other, you know? I know how disciplined you have to be - so, well done! I got close to losing 50lbs. haven't done it yet, but I'm hoping. I'm content for now, with where I am but I think I want to lose more eventually.
Seriously, post some pics or send me some or something. I wanna see what you look like!!!!
Wow! That's really cool. I can't wait to see you at our elementary school summit over Christmas (not that I wouldn't be excited otherwise... you know what I mean).
such a cool thing, woman. It's an inspiration to some of us to tackle the hardest of challenges, and the best part is the very cliche but the very true "when you have your health, you have everything" You look great and I think it's fair to say you feel great too... Hurrah!
I haven't read your blog in far too long, but yes, oh yes! You look amazing, as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. And Heidi's right, your "do the good stuff, don't do the bad stuff" philosophy is the only way to go. You're as smart as you are lovely. :-)
